By their own admission, The Jezabels are simply a group of friends who have been making music for sometime now. This is indeed true but what is left out of the description is just how powerful and mesmerizing their music actually is.
Meeting at University the band are made up of the combined musical talents of Nik Kaloper – Drums, Samuel Lockwood – Guitars, Hayley Mary – Vocals, Heather Shannon – Keys.
The Jezabels create a unique sound that is refreshingly difficult to pigeonhole. Try to imagine the haunting vocal melodies of great modern vocalists such as Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Tori Amos delicately wrapped around beautiful melancholy sounds of Arcade Fire and Massive Attack whilst being pounded with beats you’d expect to hear from the likes of Isis or The Dillinger Escape Plan… It shouldn’t work…but it does and the end results are breathtaking.
The Jezabels are certainly ‘One’s To Watch’ for 2012 and the band are certainly no strangers to the road, having spent most of 2011 on tour with this year looking to be much the same.
The Music Press were recently invited to come and chat with the Nik and Hayley and upon meeting the band we found perhaps the nicest and laid back musicians we’ve had the privilege of working with.
